It was a beautiful day for the ceremony. I have pictures from the ceremony, too, but don't have permission from any of the people involved to post their picture on the Internet.

I had to take a picture of this garden. I think it's so beautiful. I love the flower pots & the lantern. I'm not sure who planted this garden, but they did a wonderful job!

The Nutty Knitters are meeting again (after our summer break). We meet every Wednesday at 6:30 (at the church). Anybody can join us - if you crochet, we have crochet shawl patterns. If you don't know how to knit, we're happy to teach you!

The Lancaster New Era had an article about Prayer Shawl groups at local churches this past weekend. One church has a group (of 12 people) who has made 230 shawls in the two years that they've been a group! It's an interesting article. If you're interested in reading it, I'll have it with me Wednesday night.

Our group has some finished shawls! Here they are:

This shawl was made by Mary Jo. It's the first shawl she knit! She used Lion Brand Homespun yarn.

Marian made this shawl. I can't believe it's been almost a month since my last post to this blog! Soon it'll be time for the Nutty Knitters to start meeting again. Yay!!

Some of you may know that Cara (January One blog) helped to plan the Spin Out, which was scheduled to be held in Central Park, NY on Saturday, June 24th. Spin Out was still held, but because of rain, it wasn't held in the park. Cara wrote an article about the event for Knitty. You can read the article here. What you may not know, is that Cara set up a registry at Heifer International. For every $10 a person donated, they'd be entered into a drawing for some wonderful prizes (visit Cara's blog to see all of the prizes). Cara's initial goal for the Heifer registry was $3600.00. The total amount she raised was $18,936.00!! Read her article to find out all of the things that money bought.

The knitting bloggers are amazing people! This is just one example - there are many others.

That's all. I don't have any shawl pictures to share with you today. I just wanted to share some of the generousity of knitting bloggers.

Enjoy the weekend!

Some long-overdue pictures!

These stitch markers were made by Melissa. I used some of the yarn that Wendy donated for Prayer Shawls. I used Lion Brand Micro Spun and Bernat Cottontots. The two yarns made a soft, solid feeling shawl.

This is a close-up of the shawl.

This shawl was knit by Bev. This shawl was knit with Lion Brand Homespun yarn. The color is a little off in the picture, because the sun was starting to go down.

A close-up of Lynne's shawl.

I wasn't at the Nutty Knitters meeting this past Wednesday. I was "fighting" with a lining for a felted bag. The lining won & the bag was donated without a lining. :-)

We only have 2 more Nutty Knitters meetings before our summer break. We will start meeting again in the fall. We're looking at changing the night of the week that we meet (that way we don't have to stop meeting for Advent and Lent). We're considering meeting on Mondays or Tuesdays.

**All you Nutty Knitters, think about what night would work best for you & let us know on Wednesday when we meet.

Even though we're not going to be meeting during the summer, we should still be working on shawls. At the rate we're giving them out, we don't have enough "in stock" to make it through the summer - and we would like to be able to give a shawl to each of our shut-ins.

I "found" another Prayer Shawl group. Click here to check out their webpage.

See you Wednesday!

A quick update...

The Nutty Knitters met last night (we meet every Wednesday). We have another finished shawl - I'll have pictures next week - and we gave one out. In the next week or so, we will be giving out at least one more. We also have some shawls (and a lap blanket) that will soon be finished. In the very near future, we will have enough to give one to each of our shut-ins!

I found out last night that we (the Nutty Knitters) have received our first monetary donation from someone in the congregation! It was enough to pay for the yarn for one shawl! Woo-hoo! The May newsletter was the first time we mentioned (to the congregation) about donations - and we got one already! Do we have an awesome congregation, or what?

Thank you, to our anonymous donor!!

For those of you who don't know, up until now, each Nutty Knitter has been purchasing the yarn for the shawls they make. As you can imagine, over time, this can add up to a good deal of money that each person is paying. Monetary donations help to alleviate the yarn cost.

If you're interested in donating, please e-mail me at: hlthyskincanbyrs(at)verizon(dot)net and I'll get you information on how you can donate. **Note: Replace the (at) and the (dot) in my e-mail address with the appropriate symbols.

If you'd like to post a comment to the blog, and are having trouble, please e-mail me and I'll give you instructions.

That's all for now. Enjoy the weekend! Those of you going to Maryland Sheep & Wool, have a safe trip!!

Some Examples of What We Do...

A close-up. In the near future, we hope to have enough finished shawls to give one to each of our shut ins.

A Big Thank-You!

Several weeks ago, I was reading Wendy's blog, Knit and Tonic. In her post, she mentioned that she had some yarn (KnitPicks Crayon) that she would never use. So I left a comment, telling her that the yarn is great for the Prayer Shawls I knit. She e-mailed me, asked for my address, asked me to tell her a little about the shawls & told me that she would send me the yarn. She lives in California - I've never met her in person.

In a few days I received the package and it contained the Crayon plus 7 more skeins of yarn! Enough yarn to make 3 or 4 Prayer Shawls!! How wonderful is that?!? Thank you, Wendy!

Of course I cast on for a shawl, right away. I also did a couple of swatches to see how some of the yarns look together. The pictures to the right show the shawl I started. I am now on my second skein of each of the two yarns I'm using for that shawl. I hope to have it finished by next Wednesday.

Wendy is also a member of The Garter Belt Design Team.
